Let’s be real: AI is only as smart as your prompt.
If you’ve ever wondered why your chatbot sounds like it skipped coffee and forgot its job, the problem probably isn’t the AI—it’s the way you’re talking to it.
I hopped on a recent Zoom call hosted by Mario Aldayuz (Head of Partnerships at HL Pro Tools) with some power users from Progreda, GHL Engine, and The Syndicate.
We covered a ton of ground on prompt engineering, fixing bot flops, and making AI workflows not suck.
Here’s what you really need to know 👇
Your AI Isn’t Psychic. It Just Needs Better Instructions.
One thing Mario said that stuck with me: “Confusion is the root of all evil in AI prompting.”
Boom. That line should be on a t-shirt.
Here’s what that means: when your instructions are vague, your AI turns into that intern who nods a lot but delivers something completely off.
If you want your bot to actually help, it needs crystal clear instructions.
My Go-To Tips for Crafting Killer Prompts
Here’s the playbook we walked through on the call:
1. Be Ultra Specific
🧒 Think of your AI like a super-literal 10-year-old. Don’t just say “help the user reset their password.” Instead, write:
“If the user asks about a password reset, send them to this reset link. If they say the link didn’t work, offer to connect them to support.”
2. Don’t Worry About Length
Long prompt ≠ bad prompt.
Write as long as it takes to be clear. You’re not Hemingway—you’re writing a recipe for your robot chef.
3. Test Like a Maniac
Run your prompts through ChatGPT first. Break them. Rewrite them. Repeat. AI thrives on iteration—and every time you improve a prompt, you’re upgrading your virtual team.
4. Plan for the Worst
What happens if the customer’s angry? Or confused? Add escalation rules.
For example:
“If the user uses words like ‘angry,’ ‘cancel,’ or ‘upset,’ route to live support immediately.”
Now you’ve got an AI that knows when to shut up and call in backup.
Bottom Line: Your AI Is Only as Good as Your Instructions
The best bots in HighLevel aren’t magical—they’re just prompted better. If you’re serious about automating without sounding robotic (or just plain wrong), then treat prompt building like a craft.
👊 Test.
🔁 Tweak.
🧠 Think like your bot.
That’s how you build AI that actually works.
